Light to the World

Jesus Christ said “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). Because all his followers are in Him, he famously says of them in his Sermon on the Mount “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). What does that look like for us in practice? What are Jesus’ people called to be and to do in his world? We will explore this on Ignite 2013 where our theme is “Light to the World”.

Exodus 19:3-6 ‘The Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying: “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you indeed will obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”’

Matthew 5:14 ‘You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let you light shine before others. So that they may see your works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’
