China with over 1.3 billion people has overtaken all of the world’s economies except the US to become the second largest economy with many people suggesting that China could eventually become the world’s largest economy in a matter of just a decade. It is a communist ruled country which gives official recognition to a few selected religions and churches which it strictly monitors and scrutinizes. Dynamic evangelical congregation can only meet secretly in small numbers in private homes. Chinese citizens have limited rights and freedom under the communist rule. In spite of her advancing economy, many people are still poor in China.
Abandoned Devotion & Spiritual Awakening:
The house church movement is thriving in China. Pray against the tendency of the house church to become a ground for the propagation of heresy and false teaching because of often lacking a broad accountability and hierarchy. Pray the Spirit of God will superintend over the Chinese church and cause sound doctrine to become rooted and grounded. Pray for a reversal in all emerging forms of heretic teachings and practices. Pray that the church will be “sanctified by the truth” of God’s word (John 17:17). Pray the Church will guard against materialism in a country where the economy is growing annually at around 10% and so much is available.
Great Commission Vision/100,000 New Message Bearers:
China has been growing a strong missions vision for some time now. Pray the missions movement in China will be a Spirit-led movement and not a humanly-driven one. There have been reports that Message Bearers are sometimes merely handpicked by the pastor and asked to go. Pray God will be the one calling, speaking to and sending the missionaries coming out of China. Isaiah said, “I heard the voice of the Lord saying ‘whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’” (Isaiah 6:8) Pray compassion and love for Jesus and the unreached will undergird the Chinese missions movement, and Message Bearers being sent out will be of the highest quality and the brightest.
100 Million Global Harvest:
More than 80% of China is unreached with the love and gospel of Jesus. Missions and evangelism are officially not allowed by the communist government but God “can make a way where there seems to be no way” (Isa. 43:16). Pray more and more effective ways of missions, salvation and discipleship will be found among the hundreds of millions of unreached people in China who do not yet know about Jesus. Pray the gospel that is preached in China will not be a powerless and lame gospel but full of the demonstration of power that will draw people to Jesus and bring glory to His name.
